Historically Sensitive Attic Remodel

Weston, MA

Project Details

Our clients were hoping to remodel the attic on the second floor of this historic house, so it could be used as a Master Suite. The existing space was not high enough to accommodate living space, so the solution would be to tear off the roof and rebuild it in a manner that produced adequate height. Because the house is situated in a historic district, the alterations needed to respect the original lines and details of the home.

By successfully matching the slight curve of the original rafters – and matching other important exterior details – we were able to both satisfy the historic commission and produce a beautiful and functional space. A corridor was converted into a very functional dressing room joining the Master Bedroom and Bath. Downstairs, a small room was enlarged for a new Playroom and an old laundry became a well-organized Mudroom.
