Captain Forbes House Museum Barn Restoration, Milton, MA

We recently had the opportunity to carry out a restoration of the barn at the Captain John Forbes House Museum in Milton, MA.  The project was funded in part, and reviewed by the Massachusetts Historical Commission so all of the work had to meet with strict historic preservation standards.

The building (ca. 1840) had suffered from some serioous leaks over a long period of time so there was major deterioration of the post and beam frame. We carried out repairs to the frame by replacing rotted timbers with similar members made from white oak.

Other work included replacement of the wood shingle roof, restoration of the windows and doors, miscellaneous repairs to siding and exterior trim, foundation repairs and repointing, and a thorough prep and paint job.
